A GROUP of family members who are fundraising for Cancer Research and Alzheimers' Society will be holding a charity event in Stroud this weekend.

Wendy Old, Samantha Beer, Phillip and Nick Whitehead have already successfully completed a 25 mile sponsored Easter walk, and this Saturday's fundraiser promises to be a lot of family fun.

The charity event will be held at Marling school from 10am-2pm and as well as a raffle there will be a tombola, a messy corner for the little ones, a jumble sale and tea, coffee and cakes.

Fantastic prizes can be won on the day including an overnight stay with breakfast at the DeVere Cotswold water park hotel, a family photoshoot from TomDurn Photography, dog grooming, a 30 minute reflexology session and a whole host of other treats too.

Andrew Beer, whose wife Sam is one of the fundraisers explained that all of the friends had lost, or had friends or relatives who were currently battling the illnesses: “Wendy lost her Father to Alzheimer’s in November 2008 and her Father-in-Law in 2017 and Phill and Nick’s nan lost her fight to the illness in 2016,” Andrew explained.

“Additionally, Sam’s Mother-in-Law is currently having treatment for breast cancer and we also have other family and close friends being treated for various cancers," he said

The industrious family have already raised in excess of £5,000 so far for the Alzheimer Society.
