A STROUD woman who died on the railway line near her home in Bowbridge last year took her own life, a coroner ruled today.

Helen Saunders, who was in her 50s, was killed when she was hit by a train near an unmanned crossing two miles outside Stroud at just after 7am on December 13.

After hearing from Mrs Saunders' husband, doctor and the British Transport Police the coroner ruled that Helen, who spent most of her life as a teacher, had committed suicide.

The coroner said: "Whatever triggered what happened we will never know. I am sorry I cannot shed any more light on what final fact or event pushed her over the edge."
