The accident, which took place at around 4:15am on Sunday morning, claimed the lives of two people. A man in his 20's and a woman in her 30's.

As yet there has been no official confirmation of the identity of the victims, but it is understood that they lived very near to the site of the crash.

Among the tributes, one person wrote: "You were both lovely people who impacted many lives. You will be missed."

While another wrote: "Gone way too soon, I will think about you for the rest of my life."

There were many tributes laid at the point on the road, with people visiting the site frequently even three days on.

The victims were driving, in a black Audi, along Westerleigh Road towards the Ring Road when the car collided with a wall and tree at a nearby residents home.

Emergency services were called to the site by people who were doing work on the railways nearby, however the pair were announced dead at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions until around 2pm on Sunday afternoon, before being reopened to the public after service teams cleaned up the site.

The homeowner whose property was damaged by the collision declined to comment, but has placed a chair next to the site so friends and family can sit and reflect.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police did reveal that they are still appealing to anyone who may have information on the incident to contact them.

"An investigation has begun to establish the cause of the collision on Westerleigh Road, we would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle prior to the collision to call 101 and quote log 309 of July 8th."
