ANTI-FUR protestors took to the streets of Stroud on Saturday to promote a vegan free life-style and express their dismay at those who may choose to wear fur.

Dozens of people took part in the protest on the town’s high street on Saturday morning with placards and banners showing slogans and photographs which they hoped would encourage people to think again before wearing fur.

Slogans such as ‘Their Fur Not Ours’ and ‘Fur is Murder’ were included on the signs which also showed images of animals in cages on fur farms.

One of the protestors said that it was time for the sale of fur to become illegal in the UK.

“It’s hard to believe that real fur is still allowed to be being sold in the UK,” he said.

The peaceful protest came in the wake of a shop owner in Stroud being targeted with online abuse for selling fur.

Faye Alyce Rogers was forced to close The Boutique on Bedford Street after receiving over a thousand messages over three days including death threats after people took offence to the shop selling clothing made from animal fur.

Her garments are mostly lined with fur from foxes, rabbits and raccoons.

Fur farming was made illegal in the uk nearly two decades ago, after a public consultation in 2000 found that there was ‘overwhelming support to end the practice’.

Selling fur in the UK is not currently illegal but there are strict regulations on which animals can be used and where the fur comes from.
