Berkeley Castle will star on big screens all over the world as Johnny English Strikes Again hits the cinema tomorrow, Friday, October 5.

Filming took place over several weeks last year when the castle featured as the location for the G8 summit and thanks to the wonders of CGI technology it appears as if on a remote island in the middle of the ocean.

Visitors to the historic building were delighted to see Emma Thompson, Rowan Atkinson, Ben Miller and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko as they prepared for their scenes in and around the set.

Johnny English Strikes Again begins when a cyberattack reveals the identities of all active undercover agents in Britain, leaving Johnny English as the secret service's last hope.

Called out of retirement, English dives headfirst into action with the mission to find the mastermind hacker.

As a man with few skills and analogue methods, Johnny English must overcome the challenges of modern technology to make this mission a success.

A jetty was built on the steps to the lower lawn with a dingy attached which bobbed about as if on water – thankfully no flooding of the castle grounds was required, the water was added in later with the aid of computer graphics.

There was also great excitement when a life-sized helicopter was built in the Inner Bailey and a new set of steps assembled in the castle’s great hall.

The castle is becoming increasingly popular as a film location and has been used for Poldark, Wolf Hall, The White Princess, The Spanish Princess, as well as many other documentaries and period dramas.

Berkeley Castle is open from Sunday to Wednesday each week until the end of October, 10.30am – 5pm (last admission 4pm).
