South Gloucestershire libraries are promoting the work they do to support the health and wellbeing of communities and residents.

It is part of Libraries Week that is taking place from 8 to 13 October and supported by South Glos Council.

The new library service has now been in place for over a year, with some of the new changes that have been made being received well in the area.

Some key developments to the service include: The option for library users to visit selected libraries when they are unstaffed seven days a week with Open Access, a growing range of digital services that are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the improved LibrariesWest app that enables users to manage your library account at any time.

South Glos Councillor Paul Hughes, who is also the cabinet member for communities and tourism, encouraged people to visit their centres over the week.

"Come along to your local library during Libraries Week and find out about everything on offer including our new services," he said.

"As part of the development we have created a new vision for South Glos Libraries: the space where people, communities and ideas grow.

"This reflects the role of libraries as unique community buildings, which are open to everyone and provide resources at a local level which can inform and inspire people of all ages."

Opening times for the libraries in the area are: Yate library, Tuesday 9 October, 10.30am – 12 midday, Thornbury Library, Thursday 11 October, 10.30am – 12 midday and Winterbourne Library, Friday 12 October, 2pm – 4pm.
