In his Stroud farmers' market column for this week's SNJ (Oct 3), Gerb Gerbrands highlights the smaller Wednesday market.

This column generally focusses on the Saturday market but just this once I thought it might be worth mentioning our weekly Wednesday market.

The market started at the beginning of June. We had a small number of high-quality traders who were keen to do a regular mid-week market. We knew this would be a challenge as Wednesday is known to be the quietest day of the week in town, but this translates into our secondary motivation; to bring more people into town. on a Wednesday and up the footfall for everyone!

Every week we have The Billowing Loaf, a new and tiny artisan bakery providing fresh breads and pastries, Mo’s Sushi from Cheltenham with a wide range of sushi including vegetarian and vegan options, Hotch Potch Organic vegetables (also at the Saturday farmers’ market) supplement their own produce with produce from Newark Farm and Overton organic eggs (from Saturday), Marion Mitchell arts and vintage, our Local Food stall where we have Woefuldane dairy, Days Cottage Juices, Stainswick Farm Rapeseed Oil, Wiltshire Chilli Farm and other local products plus a café and hot food from Marinades Caribbean. We also have occasional traders.

Finally, may I introduce new stall Seal. Seal is a new Stroud business providing plastic free toiletries options; shampoo, conditioner and handwash refills with glass dispensers if required, Beauty Kube shampoo cubes, natural toothpaste, eco shaving kits and lots more for a shift to environmentally friendly toiletries.

The market is nothing like Saturday but there are still plenty of good things to find there, so come and see us, 9am-2.30pm every Wednesday.
