A Maidenhill student faced the culinary criticism of top chefs when she went to a South West cooking final on Saturday.

Eva Bolton-Lake and two other students from Maidenhill school went to the Gloucestershire final for South West chef of the year 2018 last school term.

On Saturday, Eva went to the South West final where she was judged by top chefs from the South West, as well as Michael Caines MBE.

In the run up to the competition, Eva attended work experience with Gus Ashenford at restaurant 5 North Street in Cheltenham.

He mentored her and helped her with her final dish.

She then cooked against the five other finalists from the counties around the South West on Saturday.

Though she did not win, but she got a semi-finalist plate and a certificate - not to mention a great experience with lots of feedback.

Kelly Shannon, subject leader of design and technology at Maidenhill, also took part in the home cooks category to support the students.

She had to choose a protein and produce a two course menu, opting for scallops and a tart.
