A young cow had a lucky escape on Minchinhampton Common, near Stroud, yesterday afternoon after getting stuck under the branches of a tree brought down by storm Callum.
Surrounded by other cows who were happily tucking into the leaves of the fallen tree, the small brown cow was stuck in a tangle of foliage.
Although the cows were clearly happy feasting on th leaves, one needed a little help to escape. Picture: Patricia Fear
Luckily Patricia Fear and her daughter came to the cow's aid and helped release it so that it could join the rest of the herd.
Patricia explained what had happened: "The small brown one was stuck in the branches, but my daughter managed to free it!"
Over the last few days the area has been struck by strong winds brought on by storm Callum, with many trees among the casualties.
'A casualty of storm Callum', Patricia told the SNJ. Picture: Patricia Fear
The tree trapping the cow had had its trunk split in two bringing down the top of the tree and a large amount of branches.
Yellow warnings for wind and rain have been issued by the Met Office but the worst of the weather is expected to pass by tomorrow (Sunday, October 14).
Some of the cows took advantage of the tasty leaves now within easy reach. Picture: Patricia Fear
