THE Rotary Five Valleys Fireworks is back for another amazing display on Monday, October 22.

It will take place at Marling School playing fields in Cainscross Road, Stroud.

The largest professional firework event across the area is once again organised by the Rotary Clubs of Stroud, Stonehouse and Nailsworth.

For more than five decades, the ever-popular event has raised almost £250,000 for various charities.

During the 1950s Ebley National Children’s Home ran annual summer fetes and an autumn fireworks display for the children in their care.

By the 1980s Ebley fireworks, as they were known then, were organised by Stroud and Stonehouse round tables as well as Stroud Rotary Club.

Stonehouse and Nailsworth Rotary groups were invited to join officially as partners of Stroud Rotary Club and the Round Tables in 2012, so in 2013 the name was changed to the Rotary Five Valleys Fireworks to reflect the whole community.

Profits support good causes, with at least half going towards young people.

The charities supported this year are Gloucestershire Young Carers, Open House (formerly Shire Training Workshops), Stroud and Stonehouse Community Awards, Home Start, Stonehouse Family Centre, Stonehouse Junior Fun Run, Chestnut Court, Nailsworth Alzheimer Cafe, Nailsworth Youth Club, John's Journey and Five Valleys Sounds Talking Paper.

The amazing display is designed and choreographed to music by British firework champions Star Fireworks.

Attractions include John Coneley's Fun Fair, food and drink, and Under 12s will be entertained with Punch and Judy shows free-of-charge before the display.

Gates open at 6pm, display starts at 8pm.

The cost is £10 adults, £5 children on the gate but advance tickets purchased online at fivevalleysfireworks.org.uk are cheaper.
