It's not right that the actions of a small minority of fans risks ruining football and its reputation for the rest of us.
As we report on page two of this week's SNJ, around 40 of those heading to see the Forest Green Rovers and Cheltenham Town game on Saturday took their rivalry way too far.
The actions of these hooligans are not representative of the fans on either side of the pitch.
But it's of concern to all football lovers - it gives the sport a bad name.
It flies in the face of work done by teams like that on page 17.
These fans detracted from what was really an afternoon of great football played respectfully by either side.
It's also shocking that this happened in Nailsworth.
There are fewer towns in our area that can boast an atmosphere of peace and quiet - and this was, briefly, well and truly shattered.
Credit must be given to the police officers involved - they stayed calm when cornered, despite being outnumbered.
Passion for sport is great - but this can't happen again.
