IT HAS taken the cruel torture and murder of a journalist to focus eyes on the arms trade to Saudi Arabia.

This has been an immoral disgrace that has been going on for for years.

Neil Carmichael assured me back in 2012 when I raised it with him that 'the Government has the toughest export regime in the world' and that they will 'review the export of specific defence products' and 'withdraw licences if they do not seem appropriate'.

How hollow those words sound now.

We have allowed ourselves to be sucked into ever greater arms sales to a brutal regime and shown ourselves to have little or no moral compass.

It is a great shame on us.
