An Aldi will open in Stroud next week.

The supermarket has announced its shop on the Bath Road trading estate will open on Thursday, December 13.

Aldi faced a battle with planners to a build a store in Stroud, with permission initially refused in 2016.

At the time groups against the plans argued the discount store would harm trade in town centres, lead to job losses and cause traffic problems.

But after a government appeal and outcry on social media, district councillors approved the plans in September last year.

The application included a 120-space car park and the demolition of several buildings on the industrial estate, such as Stroud Auction Rooms, which has now moved to Lightpill Mill.
