KEEN writers at Kemble Primary School launched their own new school magazine last Friday.

The magazine, called the Cool Green Magazine, was created entirely by students and was the idea of headteacher Anna-Mai Armstrong.

She explained: “I started the magazine because several children were telling me they had written stories and wanted them published.

“I’ve always wanted to run a school magazine. Once I put the idea to the children, it just took off and they had lots of suggestions for different sections.

“We had weekly meetings and I helped them edit their work. I found a publisher in Swindon because I wanted it to look professional and happily the Kemble Parents Group said they would fund it.”

As well as stories the magazine also included sports reports, jokes and quizzes, poetry, instructions on how to make glass beads and a recipe for cheese scones.

It was sold for £1 at the end of the school day, alongside cheese scones baked by pupils.

The team sold 50 copies of the Cool Green Magazine, and made over £70. The money will go towards the next edition.

Anna-Mai added: “We are planning on another one in March and already pupils have got ideas for it, different ideas. We want each magazine to be unique.”

One student contributor, Courtney, said: “I can’t believe my story has been published.”
