One reader has contacted the paper to express their disappointment at the closure of Stroud's tourist information office:

I AM greatly disappointed and saddened that the new plans for ‘the Subscription Rooms’, exclude the Tourist Information office.

The plan it seems, is to replace the Tourist Information office, with a café and booking office.

What is the thinking behind that, when we already have numerous cafes in Stroud, and the Tourist Information office already book many events.

The Tourist Information give a wonderful service, apart from being friendly and helpful, they promote events in the Subscription Rooms as well as many local events.

Most large events are centred around the Subscription Rooms ie Goodwill Evening, festivals, fairs, demonstrations and bands etc.

So why not promote the Tourist Information, keep them in the present place and give them a super swish Tourist Information and banking kiosk, as a big thank you to them.

I think it would be a great disservice to Stroud residents and visitors, to lose the Tourist Information office.
