Amateur dramatics groups across Gloucestershire are celebrating after receiving numerous nominations in the 2018 Noda awards.

Groups from Dursley, Sodbury and Thornbury all feature in the list that was revealed this week.

Dursley Operatic and Dramatic Society found themselves nominated for two awards, Best Drama production and Stage Decor awards, for their Blackadder, Wizard of Oz and Spamalot productions.

The Parish Players from Olveston's production of The Wizard of Oz has also reached the short list of nominations for the Wilfred Roe Trophy for Stage Decor.

The Cotswold Players also received a nomination in the Best Drama production category for their Anne Boleyn show.

The group's show was also nominated for the Stage Electrics award for Technical Achievement.

COS Productions in Cirencester's Titanic was nominated for the Councillors Cup as well as the Haslemere award for Visual Experience.

There was also recognition for a number of youth groups in the area, with Northavon Youth Theatre Company's Les Miserables being nominated for Best Youth Production and Best Youth Company Singing.

Sodbury Players Youth Section's Footloose and Shooting Star's Cats were nominated in the Youth Award for Characterisation category as well as Cats getting a nod for Company Movement and Dance.

Sodbury Vale, who perform their shows at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, were nominated for best Company singing for their Last 50 Years medley show.

There were also nominations in the June Barker Award for Best Pantomime.

Sodbury Players, who are currently performing their run of Jack and the Beanstalk, were nominated for 2018's Peter Pan, whilst Actonians based in Iron Acton saw their successful panto Sinbad the Sailor nominated.

A special mention must also go to Actonians Member Godfrey Lamb who was nominated for the certificates of excellence for new writing award for his part in the writing of Sinbad the Sailor.

Winners will be announced at the Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday at the March 16th, 2019 at the Grand Plaza, Plymouth.
