THE Christmas term ended on a quizzical note at Sir William Romney’s School in Tetbury as parents, staff and other eager entrants pitted their collective brains against one another at a festive quiz night.

Over 75 people competed in teams including the topically named “Where’s my drone?” and over £600 was raised by the school’s PTA.

The extremely enjoyable evening was the first in a programme of fundraising events in support of the school’s Social Spaces project.

This ambitious undertaking aims to develop the outside and dining areas of the school to embrace and reflect the vibrancy, creativity and inclusiveness for which the school is renowned.

Anchored in the principles of sustainability, well being and ecological responsibility, the project will see the school’s canteen benefit from a major makeover, bringing light and colour to what is currently an uninspiring and functional space.

At the centre will be a focus on healthy eating for both mind and body, in an environment designed to encourage pupils of all ages to socialise and connect with each other.

Produce will, where possible, be locally sourced including from the school’s own horticulture area. A new sensory garden will provide a calm, reflective area in the heart of the school, offering an escape to peace and tranquility for those students wishing to relax and unwind.

The outdoor seating area is also being completely refurbished and redesigned, to create a lively alfresco dining area connected to both the canteen and, by way of a planted, green pathway, the horticultural classroom.

A team of committed, energetic and passionate parents are now fully supporting both projects by using their expertise in fundraising, communications, and architecture and leading the design aspects of both projects.
