Old computers, laptops or keyboards could be given a new lease of life to help children in Africa thanks to the work of Stroud based charity, the Rotary Club of Severn Vale

This Saturday, January 26, members of Rotary Club of Severn Vale will be collecting old but working computer equipment at Tesco in Stroud to help children in Africa learn.

They are appealing to people to bring donations of computers, laptops, tablets, keyboards, mice and other similar equipment.

All donated computers will have their data wiped to MOD standards but it is recommended that donors remove as much data as possible.

Mike Naylor of Rotary Club of Severn Vale said; "We are delighted to continue to be able to support this super initiative that helps give a better future to children in Africa. Massive thank you to Tesco for allowing us to collect and to everyone who so kindly supports us.

Stroud MP David Drew was at the launch of the scheme.

“This is a really great project, which not only keeps old computers out of landfill sites, but ensures that they become a real asset where they are desperately needed.” said David.

Donated items are refurbished and updated by Cheltenham based IT Schools for Africa.

The collection runs from 11 am to 12pm at Tesco, Stratford Road in Stroud then 1.30pm - 2.30pm at Tesco in Quedgeley. More information SevernValeRotary.org.uk
