JAMES has lived in the Cotswolds all his life and is a second generation estate agent, having followed in the footsteps of his late father who previously owned offices in Painswick and Stroud where he was brought up.

His parents, Alan and Susan Pyle, moved to Painswick in 1962 and soon after, his father opened a new office for Lear & Lear (now Hamptons) in Beacon House in New Street.

Susan also opened the first Painswick Hairdressers and they quickly became a strong part of this strong village community and were heavily involved in the organisation and running of Painswick Show, held annually in August in The Park at Painswick House.

James attended ‘Miss Chapmans’ and then Painswick Primary and spent a very happy childhood at Byways in Stepping Stone Lane.

In 1972, Alan opened A R Pyle & Co and established offices by the Four Clocks in Stroud and another in The Old Dairy in Painswick.

His father sadly passed away in 1989 but with ‘Agency’ in his blood, James began his formal agency career at 21 and has since been integrally involved with some of the best independent estate agents in the UK, even working alongside his mother, Susan who continued her agency career working with Dianne Mearns and Carole Cole in the Painswick office of Hamptons.

James married Sam Rumble, from Washbrook Farm, Edge in 1995 at Painswick House – the first civil ceremony to be held there and they set up home in May Cottage in Edge Lane before landing his first managers role with Hamptons in Malmesbury.

During his career to date, James has personally established and run offices in the market towns of Stroud, Nailsworth, Malmesbury, Corsham and Marlborough selling all kinds of properties throughout Gloucestershire and Wiltshire where he is well known to many.

In 2012, having felt the time had come to run his own agency, James and his wife Sam founded James Pyle & Co.

With a changing market and modern-day marketing, James saw a gap in the market and set up a ‘Boutique’ agent feeling that service and top class presentation was more important than flagship offices on the High Street.

With widespread marketing and lower overheads, the business quickly grew to what it is today, thanks largely to his great team and a determination to succeed.

In 2017, James could not resist the urge to expand the business and the obvious choice was ‘back to home territory’ in Painswick and the Stroud Valleys.

In 2018, James opened his second office in Gyde Road Painswick with a suite of offices in Hoyland House where his eldest daughter Rosie Pyle joined the team as the ‘Third Generation’ estate agent in the Pyle family.

After six years of trading, the business is truly established with 12 members of staff and has captured a large market share across the Cotswolds region.

The ethos is to provide a first class and enthusiastic service to all clients but his biggest strength is the genuinely warm, friendly and professional approach that the team offers all to of our clients dealing in both lettings and sales.

He loves photography and enjoys walking his dogs to unwind and his love of travel brings with him a an ambition to explore world on his motorcycle and in particular, to ride the Old Silk Road from London to Beijing.

James Pyle & Co are now actively operating out of an office on Gyde Road in Painswick.
