Two wicker sheep have appeared at Gloucester Services as part of an artistic project.

They have been inspired by their woollier counterparts at the nearby Matson estate, which is known for its flock of sheep that roam around its grounds, acting as a natural traffic calming and grass cutting service.

Matson is also where the service station's partner, Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, works with several community groups, providing, for instance, activities for young people.

The wicker sheep 'grazing' around the station's pond at both northbound and southbound were originally created as part of the local community’s 2018 Hope festival, which was dedicated to sculpture.

Along with Artshape, they sheep have been made with the help of:

  • Robinswood School
  • Moat School
  • Robinswood School After School Club
  • The Phoenix Centre
  • Matson Library
  • The Police (their sheep is called Bobby)
  • Redwell Centre
  • Matson Gateway
  • Matson Baptist Church Mother & Toddler Group
