Police have been warning residents over an incident where a drone may have been used to to scout out a farm.

Yesterday Gloucestershire Constabulary announced it had received a report of a drone hovering over a farm yard in the Popes Hill area of Newnham in The Forest of Dean.

While the drone was hovering over the yard there were several people working within the workshop and buildings so the person or persons operating the drone would not have seen anybody in the yard.

Approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour after the drone had disappeared, a white van drove into the yard.

There were two males in the vehicle who said they were selling mattresses when approached by people that came out of the workshops.

Neighbourhood Watch field officer Chrissie Parkes said: "It is possible that the sighting of the drone and the appearance of the van are connected so please be vigilant if you see a drone over your property or that of a neighbour.
