SIR David Attenborough, speaking at COP24 in Katowice, Poland, said, of climate change: '...the collapse of our civilisations and the extinction of much of the natural world is on the horizon.....Leaders of the world, you must lead. The continuation of our civilisations and the natural world on which we depend is in your hands.' (tinyurl.com/yc4wagl2), writes reader Roger Plenty.

Nevertheless the response of politicians has not been wholehearted, and the failure of Trump's administration to even recognise that there is a problem has led to the conference not achieving many of its goals.

Please get this: climate change threatens civilisation.

Our politicians have been so preoccupied with Brexit that they have withdrawn their attention from almost anything else.

But the end of civilisation is conceivable in our time.

What do we do about it?

Write letters to politicians?

Write letters to the press?

We've tried all that.

How about being a bloody nuisance?

At least that might get the issue into people's conciousness, whatever they feel about it.

The untidiness of the car at Wallbridge is nothing to the untidiness that will result from the collapse of civilisation, after all.
