Pupils at Stroud's schools are going on strike today to protest against climate change, according to Extinction Rebellion.

The eco-activists, fresh from gluing themselves to benches at the county council on Wednesday, say children and young people are joining pupils across the UK who are marching out of lessons.

They are planning to march from the anti-slavery arch at Archway School at 11am, going past Stroud High School and Marling, on to Wallbridge Lock opposite the Ecotricity HQ.

Inspiration comes from a young Swedish girl named Greta Thunberg, who started the first school strike outside her country's parliament over inaction on climate change.

She has gone on to give a speech at the UN in December, telling the COP24 conference: "If a few children can get headlines all over the world for not going to school, then imagine what we could do together if we really wanted to."
