Prisoners at Leyhill Prison will be sporting a number of different items donated by participants at Chipping Sodbury Parkrun.

Leyhill is a Category D prison located near Tortworth.

This year they became the first prison in the South West to participate in the parkrun on Saturdays.

The event is closed for members of the public, however a number of prisoners took on the course that takes in 3 laps of the prison grounds.

After finding out that the event was taking place the Run Directors at Sodbury came up with a great idea to help them with the event.

Andy Airey arranged for runners at the Sodbury event to donate sports tops for Leyhill.

This was well supported, with participants from the event at the Ridings donating over 100 shirts.

Run Directors Andy Airey and Jeff Hardy then took these to the prison ready for their fourth event this on February 16.

Jeff Hardy, who was doing his first stint as Run Director, has been a parkrunner at Chipping Sodbury since April 2016.

Jeff revealed his pride at what participants in Sodbury had been able to donate.

"I really hope they get the benefit from wearing them and we hope to see the runners at our event in the future," he said.

"If Leyhill need more shirts then we have a lot more runners lining up with donations which is all part of the inclusivity of the parkrun."

On their Facebook page, CSP said: "Thanks for your donations of technical Ts for Leyhill Prison Cromhall parkrun.
"RDs Andy and Jeff have passed them to Meryl our Event Ambassador to hand over to the prison.

"We will update if we need anymore but as you can see we had a brilliant response and some really iconic Ts that must have been hard to part with.

"We also had a large number from Almost Athletes based in Cheltenham."
