These photographs illustrate a time before children had iPads and electronic games but they still seem to be having a good time.

The youngsters on the horse and cart appear to belong to a very affluent family. They have a nursery maid in attendance and the cart looks as if it has been especially adapted for a group of them to ride safely. This photograph was given to Thornbury and District Museum , who would like someone to tell them more about it - especially who the children were.

The boys on the tricycle were Archie and Walter Fill. Their father was Thomas John Golding Fill who was the headmaster of what is now St Mary’s Primary School. The house in the background is the former School House.

Playing in the bottom right photo are children of Albert and Sarah Baylis. The children’s grandfather ran the carrier service that provided Thornbury with transport into Bristol.
