A woman from Yate has been recognised nationally for her work in a nuclear power station near Thornbury.

Gayle Rew works for Magnox Ltd, a nuclear power station next to the River Severn, and is chair of the company's Women's Network.

She has now been recognised for her hard work in encouraging diversity, equality and inclusion across the industry in the UK.

Gayle received the Mission Possible award by the national Women in Nuclear Group.

It is given to celebrate a woman who has been supportive and influential in building recognition of the importance of gender balance and diversity.

On the award Gayle revealed her pride at being recognised as part of the ceremony that took place in London.

“I am absolutely thrilled," she said.

"To have won the ‘Mission Possible’ award and to gain the recognition for the progress that we have made in Magnox with our Women’s Network is great.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved since our first tentative steps two years ago.

"This includes raising awareness of the need for gender balance and growing our membership.”

An official award ceremony took place in Westminster.

The event was attended by Richard Harrington MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary for the department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
