A new 'plogging' club marked its first outing in Nailsworth last week, with the joggers collecting five bin bags of rubbish.

Plogging combines jogging with litter picking, a phenomenon that started in Scandinavia, and on Sunday, February 10 seven intrepid runners sett off from the town's Tesco Express.

The club is run by ecological group Nailsworth Climate Action Town and on Sunday the runners jogged up to and along Bristol Road, through Washpool and returned to central Nailsworth via the A46.

They managed a haul of 5 bin bags of litter, about half of which was recycled afterwards.

Matt Partridge, Treasurer of NCAT and the club’s founder, remarked “On the one hand it’s so disappointing to see so much needless litter in our community. On the other hand, it’s a truly up-lifting experience to help tidy the place while keeping fit, getting out and about and meeting new people.

"We’re looking forward to building our numbers as the weather improves and awareness increases”.

The next plogging club run will start outside the Tesco Express in Nailsworth on Sunday, March 10 at 10.00am – runners of all abilities are welcome (please wear suitable, hi-viz clothing).
