A dangerous manhole that was left uncovered on a busy road for four months has finally been fixed.

The deep hole, which measures over 50cm in width, had been exposed after a manhole cover went missing on Siddington Road near Cirencester.

As a short term fix, a traffic cone appeared to have been wedged upside down in the mouth of the void on the busy main through fare.

Worried residents were furious that the manhole cover hadn't been covered and called for immediate action.

And now four months after the issue was first reported, the drain cover has been fixed.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council confirmed that members of their Highways crew had fixed the drain cover.

Councillor Jenny Hincks added: "This has been an issue for road users for some time especially as it is on a narrow stretch of road.

"I am pleased that Highways have now decided to fix the drain so that the road can be driven on safely"
