The biggest stars in the music industry had a treat at the Brit Awards this week courtesy of Stroud's bees: a planet-friendly alternative to cling film.

Calvin Harris, Pink and First Aid Kit were among the musicians who received a beeswax wrap in their VIP goody bags on Wednesday's award show, which had a environmental theme due to its partnership with WWF.

They are produced by The Beeswax Wrap Company, based in Nailsworth at Inchbrook Mill - and which thinks there is a better way for us all to store our food.

"I'm originally a teacher and a couple of years ago I was using cling film, trying to wash it, and I just got sick of it," said one of the company's owners, Carly Catalano.

"When we moved to Stroud and realised how many beekeepers there are around here, I just started experimenting."

Made by hand out of cotton, the wraps incorporate beeswax along with pine resin and organic jojoba oil to offer a natural adhesive for storing food that can be re-washed.

Carly explained: "You use the warmth of your hands to help mould the beeswax wrap over a piece of food, bowl, dish, etc. The wrap will hold its seal once it starts to cool down."

Carly and friend Fran Cusden went all-in with the wrap business a year ago and have turned many heads in the eco-gift world, including that of fashion giant Prada.
