A zip wire, pod swing, overhead carousel and a clamberstack are coming to a play area in Stonehouse.

Oldends Lane play area is shutting today for the revamp, remaining closed for up to four weeks.

The work follows a consultation by Stonehouse Town Council in the hope of boosting the appeal of the park for older children.

Picnic benches, seating and trees are also coming to the park and the play equipment for youngsters will be refurbished, which means a new roundabout, spinner and bouncers.

The council, which has apologised for any inconvenience cause, said in its newsletter: "We hope that the new area will be a stimulating and exciting space for young children and teenagers alike to enjoy healthy, challenging outdoor exercise while also providing a pleasant place for families to meet, relax and socialise.

"The project is being funded by Stonehouse Town Council, housing developers’ contributions, The National Lottery Big Lottery Fund, Gloucestershire County Council Growing our Communities Fund (Supported by Stonehouse county councillor Lesley Williams), Gloucestershire Playing Fields Association and Gloucestershire Community Foundation.

"The contract has been awarded to Kompan and it is hoped that work will be completed by the end of spring.

"This work is Phase1 of a long-term plan to improve facilities at Oldends Lane recreation ground."
