On Friday pupils at Randwick C of E Primary School joined with staff, parents and friends to run laps around the village's huge playing field.

The fun fitness event was organised to raise money for Red Nose Day as well as equipment to fund a new fourth classroom for the school.

A new class would offer better staff to child ratios and accommodate an increase in children wanting to come to the school.

Hard working members of the Parents and Friends of Randwick School (PFORS) group organised the run, providing everyone who took part with a bespoke wooden medal emblazoned with the school’s moto, ‘Fly High’.

Children raised money by getting sponsored for per half mile lap.

Jonathan and Alastiar Gravestock, twins in the youngest reception year group, were sponsored by their mum, Emily, for each lap with the sponsorship amount increasing for each lap completed. Mum Emily even joined them as they notched up a fantastic total of seven laps - or 3.5 miles.

Stroud News and Journal:

Emily told us: "It was a terrific event led by two mums, Gina Wood and Kelly Bowes.

"The atmosphere was uplifting and it was wonderful to see children enjoying exercise, but also waiting for each other to encourage friends and classmates up the hill. I was delighted to be a part of it’

The weather didn’t lessen the passion or resilience of the children, who kept going and did their very best too.

Headteacher Mr David Poad said that he was delighted with the event: "I am so proud of everyone – our children for their passion and resilience, parents for their support and hard work to make the event a success, staff for their encouragement. Everyone did their bit, with children from as young as four running many laps with their parents."
