Mystery surrounds the sudden closure of a popular gaming shop in Stroud.

Pink Planet, which had been based in Merrywalks, appeared to have suddenly closed on Monday, March 18.

Customers said they were surprised to find the store closed: "I arrived at the store on Monday to find it was empty and closed, with the entire contents of the store removed.

"They even removed the sign from the front of the shop.

"There was no sign explaining why they have gone."

A spokesperson for Pink Planet confirmed the immediate closure of its store in Stroud and cited a 'rent disagreement' as the reason for its closure.

However, owners of Merrywalks in Stroud, Dransfield, insist there is no ongoing dispute with the company.

They said: “We have not received notice from Pink Planet Games that the company was intending to vacate their unit at Merrywalks.

“There is no rent dispute on going between us and Pink Planet Games and the company remain under lease with us until December this year.”

According to Companies House, the gaming company, who operate 15 stores across the south west, entered administration in 2016 after financial problems threatened the future of its stores.

The company, who have stores nearby in Cirencester, Bath and Chippenham, remain in administration.
