AT THE second survey carried out last Friday afternoon over most of the Upper Up playing field, the two people mentioned in last week’s edition approached the group to apologise for not having cleaned up after their pet the week before and promised to be more vigilant in future.

The next inspection will start at 4.30pm Friday, March 22. Please come and help the team.

THE stage is up for the Cerney Player’s spring panto Sinbad, a show for all age groups, being presented at the Village Hall at 7.30pm from Wednesday, March 27 to Saturday, March 30 with a matinee on the last day at 2pm. Tickets available for most performances from the Post Office in Clarks Hay or from ticketsource.co.uk/southcerneyplayers

LAST weekend at Chippenham, the attempt to break the world record for the most Daleks attending an event, failed to achieve the necessary total of 95.

Even so, 87 were present coming from all parts of the UK. The event was organised by Robert Cowley, who in “real life” is clerk to both South Cerney and Siddington Parish Councils.

Many enthusiasts claim that Robert’s event did break the record as there were some 73 “real” Daleks plus only 14 in costume whereas the standing record had only 44 “real” Daleks plus 51 in costume.

Unfortunately, the Guinness Book of Records rules do accept costumes. Robert raised £2,000 split equally between Julia’s Children’s Hospice and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Another attempt to break the record is being planned for next year.

THE following items are from South Cerney Parish Council

Fenton’s

The Cafe at Fenton’s Community Centre is now being run by The Royal Oak in South Cerney. TRO @ Fenton’s will be providing a service tailored to our community, liaising with all the classes in the hall and the meeting room facility.

District and Parish Council Elections

Elections to Cotswold District Council and to the Parish Council are due to take place on Thursday, May 2 2019. Nomination forms are available from CDC offices in Trinity Road in Cirencester or may be downloaded at cotswold.gov.uk or call CDC on 01285 623000.

Litter Picking

The Parish Council has appointed Andy West as its contractor for litter picking and odd jobs around the village.

Thank you to Abbie Stratford for organising a monthly community litter pick with volunteers for the last weekend of the month. Hopefully this, combined with Andy’s efforts, will reduce the ongoing problem of litter in the village. To join please contact Abbie via Facebook or on 07891 143999.
