Dear Editor
I refer to recent correspondence concerning the temporary use of Castle Street by traffic going east to west, during road works, as it used to before the Market Place regeneration.
I think that many of the comments suggesting that this direction of flow should be made permanent, with a flood of traffic making this a "rat race” through the town again, from east to west must be motorists. They are certainly not pedestrians in the town.
Since it has been changed to flow from west to east it has been a joy for pedestrians.
The amount of traffic here has reduced so much that it is so easy to cross the road with traffic moving slowly one way just from the direction of W H Smith.
What a joy for pedestrians safety. Which is what the town should be all about.
With regard to Cricklade Street. Yes that it a problem and should be pedestrianised.
Perhaps we should all redouble our efforts in a campaign to force Highways to act now on banning traffic in Cricklade Street.
