A fire at a disused building which is part of the site which used to house one of the biggest engineering companies in Stroud is being treated as arson.

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a derelict building off Dudbridge Road at just after 4.30pm on Friday.

Two fire engines were dispatched to the Redlers Engineering site in Dudbridge and firefighters from the Stroud station used breathing apparatus and one hose to extinguish the fire.

The fire was extinguished in less than two hours and fire engines left the scene by 6pm that day.

Thankfully no one was injured,and the damage to the building was reported by emergency teams as being minimal.

Although the cause of the fire has not been confirmed it is being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said that the case had now been passed to police to be investigated.
