The Midland Railway line from Stonehouse to Nailsworth was started in 1867.
Stations were put in at Stonehouse itself, Ryeford, Dudbridge (from where a line later branched off to Stroud), Woodchester and Nailsworth – its terminus.
It was affectionately known to generations as the Dudbridge Donkey.
The old photo of Woodchester Station was probably taken between the wars and looks towards Stroud
It stood where the road from the Ram Inn joins the A46.
The building has totally gone, but its position can be gauged from the house which still stands on the far side of the main road.
Behind where the photographer took his picture was the crossing keeper’s cottage, just visible on the right of the present day image.
