THE committee of the Bourton & District U3A have received this year’s Rotary Community Service Award.

Every year North Cotswolds Rotary presents a certificate and a cheque for £250 to a person or organisation that the club feels deserves recognition for their service to the local community.

Club president Ed Alexander said: “We are delighted to announce that the 2019 Community Service Award has been presented to the committee of the Bourton & District U3A.

“We have been very impressed by how much the organisation has grown since its inception eight years ago. It now has some 380 members and runs around 40 different groups, and is therefore an integral part of the community and touches the lives of many people.”

The committee are all volunteers and give up their time to oversee the organisation of a whole range of activities for members. Groups include archaeology, Bridge, book club, choir, country dancing, family history, nature, opera, walking, and many more.

Thanking North Cotswolds Rotary for the award, chairperson Susan Dodd said: “This award means a great deal to us as recognition for all the hard work undertaken by Bourton & District U3A to encourage learning, laughter and friendship among the local retired and semi-retired community.”

The committee will meet in May to decide how best to use the £250.
