Five people have appeared in court on suspicion of supplying drugs in Stroud.

Caleb Goggins, aged 18 and of Hatherley Road in Gloucester; James Joyce, 18 and of Hucclecote Road in Gloucester, Matthew Edrich, 44 and of no fixed abode, and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, were all charged with possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin.

Sallie-Ann Lane, aged 31 and of no fixed abode, was given the same charges along with one count of driving without insurance.

On Wednesday police officers saw a number of suspected class A drug users crowded round a car in a car park near to Tesco Express in Paganhill.

When police went to speak to the occupants, Joyce, Goggins and the 17-year-old tried to flee the scene but were detained while the other two were held in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle resulted in a quantity of drugs being recovered.

Edrich pleaded not guilty to both charges with the other four not entering pleas for the drug charges. Lane pleaded guilty to driving without insurance.

Lane and Edrich were granted conditional bail, Joyce and Goggins were remanded in custody and the 17-year-old was remanded into the care of the local authority.

All will appear at a pre-trial preparation hearing at Gloucester Crown Court on May 24.
