BRIMSCOMBE Veterans and their Stonehouse counterparts will come together to stage a charity game dedicated to popular local footballer Nick Ackland.

Brimscombe assistant manager Tim Wilkins, who is celebrating 40 years in football, organised the game to pay homage to Ackland, who died recently after a short illness.

Wilkins said: "I always thought that not only was a good player, but a gentleman on and off the pitch. He's a massive loss for football in this area."

The match kicks-off on Saturday, 12.30pm at Brimscombe FC - all proceeds going to Longfield House, which provides specialist services for people living with a life-limiting illness in Gloucestershire.
