AFTER walking around the popular tourist hotspot, Rococo Gardens and working up an appetite I decided it was time to find a nearby pub to satiate my ever increasing hunger.

With the effects of climate change becoming more obvious, it is important to do our part and individually take steps reduce our carbon footprint.

Admiring the ingredients growing in the Rococo Gardens inspired me to start the change and I went off in search of local food to do my part.

This undertaking led me to the family-run business named The Royal William which I had often passed by on my travels.

With welcoming, homely décor and a dogs welcome section it is easy to feel comfortable and at ease.

I went on Sunday, at lunchtime and it seemed a popular choice for lunch, with many of my fellow diners opting for a delicious looking roast.

There was a large menu, with a vast array of choices available, including daily specials written on a classic blackboard.

There were a selection of lighter options for those watching their figure and all this was alongside a Sunday carvery.

A pleasant addition to this pub is that they dedicate a section in their menu to the local suppliers they use.

For starter, I ordered the Royal William Platter (£13.95) to experience the range of options on the menu and get a real taste of their ability.

When the selection of halloumi fries, breaded chicken, onion bhajis, scampi and garlic bread was brought to the table my mouth began to water.

With my excitement for my main significantly improved by the lovely starter, the arrival of my crispy coated chicken, bacon, spicy tomato chutney burger (£11.95) did not leave me disappointed.

With succulent chicken, crisp chips and a tasty sauce which complemented the burger excellently I was not left disappointed.

Prices are fair for the quality and freshness of their food, and with two for £10 options also included the value increases even more.

If you do treat yourself to a more expensive option you are left feeling positive, knowing that you have supported a family business and the local community.

They have a good selection of real ales and wines for you to pair with your meal, or to just sit and drink in their bar area or garden.

Open from noon-11pm Monday-Saturday, and noon-10pm on Sunday, The Royal William is well worth a visit.
