A THORNBURY nursery is celebrating being rated 'Good' by Ofsted.

Happy Days, which opened on Cooper Road in 2017, was inspected for the first time in April.

It has been given a good rating in all areas including the effectiveness of management, quality of teaching and personal development.

Inspector Dominique Allotey said in her report: "Staff keep parents well informed about their child's progress and work in partnership with them to meet children's individual needs and extend their learning.

"Leaders show a strong commitment to continually building on the good-quality care and learning they provide for children. Leaders have a clear and ambitious vision for the nursery.

"Self-evaluation is effective in reflecting accurately on the strengths and areas for further development."

The range of activities on offer and the good behaviour of the children was also noted in the report.

Staff were described as 'friendly and welcoming' and praised for using positive teaching techniques to promote good behaviour.

Areas for improvement were also identified in the report. It stated staff do not consistently engage all young children fully during group activities while older children occasionally find it more difficult to make choices in their free play and remain focused on their learning.

Nursery manager, Angie Pass, said: "We are extremely proud of our recent Ofsted report which is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication of our fantastic team of colleagues here at Happy Days.

"We now look forward to building on this judgement as we drive forward our vision of providing outstanding childcare for all.”

Angie said that the staff would continue to keep working hard and building on the achievement to ensure they maximise experiences and to continue to provide the best possible care for all children.

She also wished to thank Emma Pearse, Thornbury manager, who started her maternity leave the day after the inspection.
