SHADOW chancellor John McDonnell will visit Stroud as part of a nationwide tour highlighting Labour's plans for the country's economy.

The Labour MP will be holding a ‘Road to Rebuilding the Economy’ conference in at the Sub Rooms on June 29, from 10am - 2pm.

Labour is defending a majority of 687 in Stroud, in a seat David Drew MP won in 2017.

Mr Drew will appear alongside McDonnell at the event to highlight Labour’s plans to revive the economy in the constituency.

After outlining Labour's vision, McDonnell will hand the floor to the audience for a discussion about the economy in Stroud.

Other speakers at Saturday's event in Stroud include Peter Dowd MP Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Shadow Treasury Minister Lyn Brown MP.

Since becoming shadow chancellor, McDonnell has led the development of Labour’s economic strategy.

During the 2017 general election he produced a fully costed economic programme detailing the taxation and spending decisions Labour would take if voted into government.
