Much time and energy is being used to find a new leader for the Conservatives.

A preacher once told us with reference to a minster that people would get the minister they deserved.

Thinking of this I thought of the Israelites who came to Samuel and told him he was old and his sons were not behaving rightly and asked him to make a king to judge them.

Samuel was displeased and prayed to the Lord.

The Lord said to Samuel: “Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.”

The Lord told Samuel to solemnly warn the people the manner of king that they would get and what the king would do to them.

The Lord finished up with the warning saying: “And ye shall call out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you: and the Lord will not hear you on that day.”

England was said to be a God fearing nation and the laws were based on the ten commandments.

John Wesley wrote: “See then, Englishmen, what is the undoubted characteristic of our nation, it is ungodliness.”

True, it was not always so.

For many ages we had as much fear of God as our neighbours.

People need to be called to repentance and to turn back to the Lord an obey Him.
