A MUM has thanked the kind passers-by who stopped to help her daughter when she suddenly collapsed in the street, saying that they “saved her life”.

Chantelle Earle was walking at the bottom of Crawley Hill in Uley at 1pm last Thursday when she collapsed in the road.

Fortunately, the list of passers by who stopped to help included a woman with medical equipment on her, an off duty member of St John’s Ambulance and a neighbourhood warden from Stroud District Council.

Chantelle, 29, from Nailsworth, had been staying in Uley for a couple of days with her mum, Helen Hunt.

Helen, 49, a nurse herself who lives near to where Chantelle collapsed, helped administer CPR.

She said: “When I got there Chantelle was unconscious. It was a bit frightening. It just happened so quick.

“There’s nothing worse than doing it on your own daughter.”

Others helped by diverting traffic while someone brought blankets from the nearby Old Crown pub. “I appreciate everybody helping,” added Helen.

“When people stop you realise how kind and generous people are. We all joined together which is nice.

“You wouldn’t expect people to do that but they did. It’s nice to know there are some really kind people about.

“I think we saved her life that day.”

Chantelle is now at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and is being assessed on the brain injuries ward.

Helen said her daughter has been having seizures and that doctors are not yet sure what’s wrong with her.

“She’s thankful for the people who stopped to help her,” added Helen. “I don’t think she remembers a lot.”
