THERE was no Sunday morning lie-in for a group of green-fingered volunteers in Dursley at the weekend.
With a visit from the South West in Bloom judges fast approaching, the Dursley Lions, traders and residents joined members of Dursley in Bloom in an early morning litter pick and weeding session.
The impending judging of the town as part of the annual RHS competition is set to take place on Wednesday, July 10.
In preparation for this, the team collected 60 bags of rubbish from Parsonage Street and the surrounding area.
Members of Dursley in Bloom are hoping that once again the town will be awarded a Gold standard for not only its summer planting along Parsonage Street, but also the planning, sustainability, natural environment and the involvement of local community groups.
Dursley Lions, the Rotary Club of Dursley, the Chantry Centre Community Garden Group, Dursley Library, Dursley Beavers, Rednock School are just some of the local organisations which have worked to make Dursley a tidier and more colourful town.
On July 10 the judges will take a tour of the town and see what Dursley has to offer.
The route will cover the Dursley Heritage Center, Broadwell, Henlow Court, the Chantry Center, the recreation ground, Parsonage Street and places in between.
