A FORMER waterways museum boat left Sharpness this week for a new life on the Medway as a houseboat.
Called the King Arthur, the leisure cruiser was owned by Gloucester Waterways Museum, and for 30 years took museum visitors on mini cruises in the area, including to Sharpness, Tewkesbury and Saul Junction.
Entertainment on board included Sunday dinners, a buffet, a disco and even the odd wedding reception.
The King Arthur, which used to be moored at the back of the museum, was sold about a month ago, but came out of usage last year.
On Tuesday, Gloucestershire police announced that they would be escorting the boat on the A38, as it was an ‘abnormal load’, and that delays were likely.
The convoy left Sharpness Dock at 9am and headed towards the Almondsbury interchange.
Drivers using the route were advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
