As a long standing member of the Royal British Legion I am full of admiration and thanks for the sacrifices of the WW2 generation to secure our freedoms. I would literally not be alive today but for them. Their sacrifices were immense. My own father served and was disabled in action.
The WW2 generation have now almost past. We have new generations in Germany, France, Britain and elsewhere who have used their time to build positive relationships between nations and whose concerns are very much towards the future. Is it too much to suggest that remembrance should be increasingly combined with reconciliation and the future. Time now to leave behind the military parades?
