On one of the greatest days of sporting history in Britain, a lesser known event took place at Greystones Farm Nature Reserve in Bourton-on-the-Water.

North Cotswolds Rotary, in association with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (GWT), and with generous support from Brio Retirement Living, held their second annual charity 10k Swan Lake cross-country Run at Greystones Farm on Sunday.

Eighty-two runners registered for the adult 10k race, which was preceded by a children's race twice around the archaeological ramparts at the stunning Cotswold Nature Reserve.

The event raised £850 for GWT's work at Greystones, and this would not have been possible without generous sponsorship from Brio, enabling the Rotary to cover their expenses and pass all the profits from entry fees to Greystones.

Graham Ogden, who organised the event on behalf of North Cotswolds Rotary, congratulated all those who took part in both races.

The overall winner of the 10k race was Luke Pennington from Cirencester, who is a member of Cheltenham & County Harriers.

He finished in an impressive time of 37 minutes, 11 seconds.

In second place was Rob Bowery from Tewkesbury, a member of Black Pear Joggers, in 37:23, and third was Andy Pullan, Kirkstall Harriers, in 40:52.

The overall female winning runner was Helen Hucker from Cheltenham in a time of 45:37, with Charlie Mitchell of Leamington Cycle & Athletic Club second in 48:55, and Laura Williams of North Cotswold Tri & Run in third place with a time of 50:26.

All participants received medals from Brio, and prizes from Rotary were given to the first three male and three female runners.

The Children's race was won by Jacob Launder, aged 7, with James Wright, also 7, second and Ashley Wright, aged 5, third. All three ran a most impressive race.

Graham Ogden thanked the staff of Greystones Farm for all their help, and Lush Timing for their efficient service and timekeeping.

"We also received a lot of help and advice from Bourton Road Runners and with their help and participation we had a most successful and enjoyable day," said Graham.

"All those who took part said they thoroughly enjoyed running across the beautiful Cotswold countryside and commented that the race was well organised, well marshalled and well signed.

"Many said they looked forward to returning next year.

"Based on such positive feedback we hope to build up this event in future years."
