YOUNG eco warriors from Thrupp were rewarded with a brand new games table after collecting 100kg of plastic for recycling.

The Thrupp Primary School pupils gathered 100kg of plastic film in 56 days, as part of a recycling challenge.

Stroud company RPC bpi recycled products, based in Dudbridge, launched the Recycle with Riley Challenge last year.

The firm, which is the largest polythene film recycler in Europe, asked schools in the district to bring used plastic film from home so that it could be recycled into second life products.

The school's prize was a snakes and ladders 'plaswood' activity picnic table for the playground made from the plastic they had collected.

The pupils were also invited to visit the RPC bpi recycled products’ factory to see the plastic recycling process in action.

Plaswood activity tables are made from 100 per cent recycled plastic and require no annual maintenance, painting or chemical treatment prior to installation. They also do not leach chemicals into the environment, rot or splinter with age.

Thrupp Primary School was the first to embrace the challenge and recently the following primary schools have also done so: Gastrells, Nailsworth, Randwick, Bussage and Croft.
