Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall has praised incoming Prime Minister Boris Johnson, saying he will bring 'energy and vision'.

Johnson beat his rival Jeremy Hunt MP to the post on Tuesday and is due to take over from Theresa May.

Mr Hall had told the Gazette that due to his position as party Vice-Chair he could not comment on who he was supporting in the contest.

"Boris will bring the energy, vision, and leadership to break the Brexit deadlock and make sure we leave the European Union by 31st October," he said.

"He can bring the change we want to see; more funding for schools in South Gloucestershire, strengthening our NHS with increased frontline spending and tackling crime with 20,000 more police on the streets.

"It is time to get the best deal for Britain that keeps our economy strong, moves the country beyond Brexit and back on the path to a brighter future.”
